Headshot of Gilda M. Nogueira, ECSB President and CEO Cambridge, Mass. – East Cambridge Savings Bank today announced that president and CEO Gilda M. Nogueira was presented with the Somerville Chamber of Commerce John W. Fitzgerald Lifetime Achievement Award. Given annually at the Chamber’s dinner and awards program, this prestigious award is presented to someone who has made significant positive impacts on the Somerville community. Nogueira, who grew up in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School, has longstanding ties to the community both personally and through her position as Bank president and CEO. The Cambridge based mutual bank she leads has had a presence in the Somerville community since 1976 when the Highland Avenue location was opened.

“It is truly an honor to receive the Fitzgerald Lifetime Achievement Award from the Somerville Chamber of Commerce and I am deeply humbled by this recognition,” said Nogueira. “I share this award with my colleagues here at the Bank who have solidified us as a true community partner in Somerville. Events like this call for reflection on one’s career, but also encourage us to continue to focus on bringing the best positive banking experience to Somerville customers and businesses and deepen and strengthen our commitment to nonprofit organizations in the city.”

The Somerville Chamber of Commerce is the preeminent voice for businesses in the city and represents just over 220 companies from independent small businesses to large corporations. The Chamber was instrumental in supporting local businesses throughout the COVID-19 pandemic by connecting members with resources to navigate through the difficult economic conditions. Chamber president and CEO Stephen Mackey reflected on the connection between longstanding support of local businesses and the Fitzgerald Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. “Gilda Nogueira has lifelong connections to the Somerville community and the Bank she leads embodies the type of good corporate citizenship that is critical for communities to grow and thrive,” Mackey said. “East Cambridge Savings Bank is always there to step up and support small businesses, nonprofit organizations, and Somerville residents. Gilda is a well-known figure in the Somerville business community and personifies the type of leader that puts giving back to the communities her Bank serves front and center.”

Upon accepting the award, Nogueira commented on the importance of supporting local businesses and harnessing the power of collaboration. “We truly can be stronger together when we support local and independent businesses – and of course the local banks,” she remarked.
