Bank employee reading to children at the Morse School in Cambridge Cambridge, Mass. – East Cambridge Savings Bank recently visited five Cambridge Public Schools to provide financial literacy sessions to over 100 kindergarten students. Throughout February, Bank staff taught these students the basics of saving, counting currency, and the role banks play in our communities.

“Providing financial education opportunities for our neighbors, particularly children and students, is a longstanding practice at East Cambridge Savings Bank,” stated Gilda Nogueira, the Bank’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “Visiting classrooms and providing financial literacy sessions is one of the many ways we support Cambridge Public Schools, and we are thrilled that this partnership has grown to reach more students in recent years.”

For many years, the Bank provided financial literacy courses to students at the Fletcher-Maynard Academy. As word spread among teachers about the lessons, several other schools requested the Bank’s employees visit their classrooms to host similar sessions. In February, Bank employees provided financial literacy workshops at the Fletcher-Maynard Academy, Kennedy-Longfellow School, King-Open School, Morse School, and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School.

Financial education is one of several programs the Bank has developed to support educational opportunities and to share knowledge of banking and money management with community members. If you would like a financial education session at your school, community center, or civic organization, please visit ecsb.com/community/community-education to request a workshop.
