East Cambridge Savings Bank was thrilled to sponsor the
Union Square Main Streets 5th Annual
Good Food for All campaign, a community effort to raise funds for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the successor to Food Stamps) matching funds available at the Union Square Farmers Market in Somerville. Thanks to local businesses and sponsors like the Bank, “Every Saturday at the Union Square Farmers Market, SNAP customers receive a dollar-for-dollar match, up to $15, for healthy, fresh, local food,” according to a Union Square Main Streets press release.
The release went on to note the benefits of the
Good Food for All campaign to a farmers market shopper who said, “The match is so important because the doubling helps your benefits go twice as far. Then, you can get good fresh food, not what you find in the grocery store. The Union Square Farmers Market is the most welcoming of the local markets for SNAP customers. Most of the vendors take SNAP, which shows how committed USFM is to inclusivity.”
East Cambridge Savings Bank and the East Cambridge Savings Charitable Foundation are committed to addressing food insecurity and actively supports organizations that increase access to healthy, nutritious food for those most in need. In addition to the
Good Food for All initiative the Bank has recently supported Bread of Life in Malden, Food for Free in Cambridge, Arlington EATS, the Lexington Food Pantry, and Project Soup in Somerville.
