Caritas Communities Receives Affordable Housing Donation
from East Cambridge Savings Charitable Foundation
CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS, November 2, 2004
East Cambridge Savings Charitable Foundation donates $2,500 to Caritas Communities. The funds will be used to support Caritas affordable housing initiatives in the Banks communities.

In recognition of the Banks 150th Anniversary the East Cambridge Savings Banks Board presented a commemorative gift of affordable housing funds to the East Cambridge Savings Charitable Foundation. Arthur C. Spears, president and chief executive officer of East Cambridge Savings Bank, states, Like Caritas, we also have an important role in affordable housing and we are pleased to be able to help support the good work of Caritas through the East Cambridge Savings Charitable Foundation.
Mark Winkeller, executive director for Caritas Communities commented, East Cambridge Savings Banks support exemplifies the way that affordable housing will continue to be preserved and created. We, and all of our residents, are very grateful to East Cambridge Savings Bank for making the commitment to those in need.
Caritas, with 23 properties that provide 540 rooms, is one of the areas largest nonprofit sponsors of affordable single room occupancy lodging houses for working individuals.
East Cambridge Savings Bank, a mutual savings bank established by Massachusetts charter in 1854, has full-service locations in Cambridge, Belmont, Somerville and Waltham, and maintains an Educational Training Facility at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School. The Bank is observing its 150th anniversary this year.
